This policy brief is the first edition of the Parliamentary Policy Brief series and gives a good overview of the Global growth in  in emerging market and developing economies (EMDEs). It reflects receding obstacles to activity in commodity exporters and speaks about downside risks to global growth include increasing policy uncertainty in major advanced economies and some EMDEs, financial market disruptions, and weakening potential growth. However, fiscal stimulus in key major economies—in particular, the United States—could lead to stronger-than-expected activity in the near term and thus represent a substantial upside risk to the outlook.

Advanced economies continue to struggle with subdued growth and low inflation in a context of increased uncertainty about policy direction, tepid investment, and sluggish productivity growth. Activity decelerated in the United States and, to a lesser degree, in some other major economies.
