St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Member of Parliament Eugene Hamilton was thrown out of emergency meeting of parliament on Friday by the Speaker of the National Assembly Curtis Martin. Parliament on Friday evening approved a Constituency Boundaries Commission report to change boundaries ahead of the coming general election.

While Mr. Hamilton was leaving the chambers, he gestured towards the mace as if to remove it apparently in jest to the amusement of members of parliament who chuckled. The ceremonial mace is a highly ornamented staff of metal or wood, carried before a sovereign or other high official in civic ceremonies—in this case the parliament marking the commencement of parliament. It is removed by a police officer at the end of a parliamentary sitting. Speaker Curtis Martin however was not amused by this gesture. After the meeting Friday, WINN FM’s news editor Ken Richards spoke to Mr. Hamilton about the incident.
