Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Rika says that a classic example was when Fiji was hit by Tropical Cyclone Winston, Category 5 in Feb this year. He said the severity of Tropical Cyclone Winston is a warning of what Fiji can expect, as a result of Climate Change. Minister for Economy – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in his Budget speech confirmed that Fiji’s proposal on climate change adaptation has been accepted by the UN Economic Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific for Fiji to host the event. Rika highlighted that Government has put aside $215,000 in the 2016/2017 in the fiscal year, for this project.
