The Climate Vulnerable Forums Global Parliamentary Group (CVF GPG) hosted a luncheon at the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to launch the Accountability Summit for parliamentarians to be held at COP28 in Dubai. Convened by the Chairperson of the CVF GPG, Hon. Emmanuel Marfo, the discussion shed light on the Summit to ensure that it is an effective platform for parliamentarians to promote increased accountability to achieve the commitments to limit temperature increases to 1.5°C; to ensure implementation of the Sendai Framework to reduce existing risk and prevent the creation of new risk; and to ensure the enhancement and scaling-up of adequate climate finance building on the shortcomings of the USD 100 billion promise. The meeting was joined by Members of Parliament from CVF member states and beyond including Bangladesh, Malawi, Nepal, Fiji, South Africa, Namibia, Burundi, Tanzania, Guinea, Mauritius, Eswatini, Uganda. During the open discussion, participants shared their national efforts that align with the objectives of the Summit. Speakers of Parliament from South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Gambia, Mauritius, Eswatini and Namibia also joined the event.
