In this paper, the author considers that ethnic diversity neither increases the risk of civil war nor reduces economic growth. He also thinks that multi-ethnic societies can usually be socially and economically fully viable. After setting out the current state of knowledge, the author investigates about how ethnic politics might affect economic performances and how ethnic differentiation might affect civil conflict. He finally draws out some implications for policy.
