This brochure presents the mission and the work of the Office for Promotion of Parliamentary Democracy (OPPD) which is part of the European Parliament's General Secretariat. The setting up of the OPPD in 2008 underlined the European Parliament’s commitment to support democratisation around the world and to focus on strengthening parliaments. The OPPD draws on the European Parliament's own experience and history bringing together parliamentary traditions from 27 member countries and its own development from a purely consultative assembly to a co-legislator.
