This conference sought to examine the role political leaders in conflict-affected countries should play in order to lay the foundations for good governance and sustainable development. In particular the conference considered: political structures and resources governments and parliaments need in order to achieve this objective; priority areas for promoting democracy, economic development and poverty reduction; and how co-operation with interim administrators, the military, private sector, trade unions and NGOs is best conducted.
