This report outlines the record of Africa’s democratization since the 1990s, pointing to the major milestones in the institutionalization of pluralism, participation, and accountability. The background is instructive in highlighting the significance of democratization processes in enhancing stability in Africa. It also reviews the causes and consequences of electoral violence and political conflicts over the years.
