Alisson Bruno from the Brazilian Senate describes the “Legislative Idea” tool that citizens have used to submit more than 100,000 proposals for new laws; and the “Interactive Events” tool for suggesting questions that Senators can ask to witnesses during public hearings. Rodolfo Vaz describes the ePoll system in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. So far, nearly 10% of the voting population in Brazil has registered to give their opinion on draft legislation that is being considered in the Chamber. AI tools are used to cluster comments so MPs can see which issues are being raised by the public. This seminar was jointly organised by the IPU and International Parliament Engagement Network (IPEN), hosted by the Public Engagement Hub.
