This instrumental Declaration was put together following a conference on how to improve the efficiency of development policies on a global scale, focusing in particular on the MDGs. The ‘Paris Principles’ - which today guide the philosophy behind many if not most development projects – are set out in the text and include Ownership, Alignment, Harmonization, Managing for Results and Mutual Accountability. While the Paris Principles do not explicitly deal with parliamentary strengthening, they have had (and will continue to have) a substantial impact on all aspects of parliamentary strengthening programs.
