INTER PARES Launch Event Youth Participation: Pathways for Parliaments
Across the world, young people are under-represented, both as elected representatives in parliaments and in the policy debates that impact youth. INTER PARES aims to collect and share knowledge and innovation on parliamentary practices that can help bridge this gap, with a focus on enabling young people to engage with the day to day work of parliaments.
This launch event will introduce the INTER PARES e-learning course on Youth Participation: Pathways for Parliaments. The course serves as a building block for INTER PARES’ ongoing work on parliaments and youth under the WYDE initiative, which will be outlined in brief.
We are joined by representatives from two parliaments at the forefront of youth participation. Deputy Paul Kehoe, Chair of the Committee on Education, Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and Tara Kelly, Clerk to the Committee, from the Houses of the Oireachtas in Ireland will share how they engage young people in its work. Khisha Peterkin, Procedural Clerk and Coordinator of the National Youth Parliament at the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago will share the institution’s steps towards building a Youth Leadership Programme.
