Guidelines for AI in Parliaments

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has propelled the topic of ethical AI and its regulation into political and institutional focus. Based on the work of a multi-national and inter-disciplinary expert team, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) published the Guidelines on AI in Parliaments, now translated into eight languages - find all below.

These AI guidelines for parliaments aim to equip legislative bodies with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the evolving AI landscape. Developed by a technical working group of 22 expert parliamentary scholars and professionals from 16 countries, the guidelines address key considerations such as ethical implications, transparency, accountability, and the integration of AI within parliamentary workspaces.

They offer a flexible framework that parliaments can adapt to their specific contexts and needs, promoting responsible AI use while empowering them to mitigate risks and harness AI’s potential to strengthen their functions and better serve citizens.
