Mozambique is viewed worldwide as a successful peace process, but not much attention has been paid to the factors that make Mozambique unique. This book does. It is a particularly interesting book because it is based on information provided by people who played key roles in the transition period in Mozambique, from war to peace. Mozambique is unique in its combination of smooth transition from a guerrilla movement to an opposition party, effective demobilisation and the absence of a truth and reconciliation commission like in South Africa – not to mention the absence of war crimes trials.
